Anne Frank was born in the German city of Frankfurt in 1929.

In 1933 the National-Socialist party led by Adolph Hitler came to power.

The Frank family decided to move to Amsterdam.

Amsterdam was a safe haven until 1940 when Germany occupied the Netherlands. Step –by-step the Nazis drove the Jews into a corner. On July 6,1942,Ottoand Edith Frank went into Hiding, Frank into hiding, with their daughters Margot and Anne, One week later , they were joined by Hermann and Auguste van Pels and their son Peter.

In November 1942,Fritz Pfeffer also came to hide in the Annex.

The office personnel helped the people in hiding. The warehouse workers weren’t aware of anything. The hiding place was betrayed on august 4,1944).

The people in hiding were deported, and only OttoFranksurvived the extermination camps.

Anne keeps a diary during the hiding period.

But, still, the brightest spot of all is that at least I can write down all my thoughts and feelings, otherwise ,I'd absolutely suffocate.(march 16, 1944).

The first publication of "The Secret Annex “ appeared in Dutch in 1947. Since then this book has been translated into more then sixty languages. Anne's original dairy is on display in the museum
